Meyer Monday [4]

Posted on January 25, 2010

Well… here’s the thing.  I have not taken one single personal photograph this week… whatsoever.  I am in shock, but that’s the truth!  So rather than try to scrounge one up, worthy of blogging… I’m going to let you in on what I’ve been up to this week that does NOT involve photography!  haha!

1.  I am truly, without a doubt, addicted to Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series… thanks to my sister.  Can’t put ‘em down, and since I have six of them here waiting to be read… calling my name in fact, I just have to cave and keep ploughing through them.  The truth is, I really don’t want them to end.  I know that the faster I finish them, the sooner I will no longer have any Stephanie Plum humor to immerse myself in… but I still can’t help myself.  Plum is a young bounty hunter who really has no clue what she’s doing, ends up in a mess of sorts every time she tries to make a capture, has the affection of two hot men, an ex-prostitute for a best friend, the craziest “pip” of a grandmother and just the funniest, most outrageous adventures!  If you haven’t read or even heard of these books… you must look into them!  Hilarious and suspenseful!  Janet Evanovich is an amazing author, no doubt about it.  Ok, so that takes up about 80% of my time that I’m not playing with my three year old, which brings me to… number 2.

2.  On our last visit to the local library (last Tuesday), my daughter picked out a few books and decided that she would finally let Mommy pick out the DVD for the week.  I was pretty excited since we always end up watching the usual Little Bear, Franklin or Diego movie daily for at LEAST five days when she chooses!  So I chose the classic Disney’s Robin Hood, knowing she’d never pick it on her own, and thinking she’d really get a kick out of it.  Boy, was that an understatement!  Knowing it has to go back tomorrow, we have not only watched it at LEAST once, sometimes twice a day since then… but have also “acted” it all out on a daily basis.  Oh yeah.  Guess who got to be Maid Marion?  That’d be me.  (With the exception of Gramma Rose, who started the whole “Maid Marion has to wear an apron on her head to look realistic” trend around here… thanks Mom by the way… sheesh!)  Oh, did I mention the movie has to be returned tomorrow?  awww… :)   Seriously, it was great the first three times… but I think we need to take a break for awhile, sorry Robin Hood.

3.  I have taken up running.  OK, you can stop laughing now… those of you who really know me might think I’m joking, but I’m totally serious.  I have been wanting to start for quite sometime now and didn’t know how to go about it.  I know the obvious answer is to strap on some running shoes and give ‘er, but clearly that wasn’t happening around here.  One of my best friends, who lives in Phoenix, has become a marathon runner and I am SO proud of her!  She really got me motivated when she told me how she was down to a size two… wowee!  And seeing photos of her crossing the finish line is also very motivating… how awesome is that?!  Now, I’m not saying that I’ll be running a marathon anyday soon, or maybe ever.  All I know is that I bought myself a treadmill a few weeks ago, and I’ve been on it everyday since… following the “Couch to 5K” plan… baby steps.  Lovin’ it!!!

So that’s what I’ve been up to this week!  I’m going to grab the camera this time around and make sure you have something interesting to look at next Monday  :)   See you then!

Snowy Day on the Course! {Medicine Hat Family Photographer}

Posted on January 20, 2010

After nearly a year of trying to get the whole family together for a photo, my friend and fellow teacher, succeeded this Christmas!  I paid them a visit during the holidays to capture these images… and what a beautiful day it turned out to be.  First of all, their house is gorgeous and was decorated so beautifully, as usual.  Their backyard happens to be on one of the best golf courses in Medicine Hat… so when we were finished with the indoor “formal” photos, we threw on our snow gear and headed out onto it for a few shots in the snow!  It was just beautiful and peaceful.  There is very little continuity in my edits here… but still, these are some of my favorite ones from this snowy day!

“Meyer Monday” Medicine Hat Photographer

Posted on January 18, 2010

We had the opportunity to watch the Olympic torch being carried through our little town yesterday… something we haven’t seen for over 20 years!  Who knows when it’ll come again?  I have the funniest photo of my sister and I welcoming it the last time… in 1988 when the Olympics were held in Calgary.  I remember how exciting it was to watch then, and got the same feeling when we saw the “parade” of sponsor trucks coming down the highway yesterday morning… so cool!  My daughter however, just didn’t really “get” the whole thing.  Haha!  She did her part to cheer, smile and wave… like you’re supposed to do when you’re watching a “parade”… but really got way more excited when we saw her hero “Pinto MacBean” walking around and taking pictures with the kids!  So once the flame had passed us by, we wandered over to ‘ol Pinto for a quick photo before he was whisked away to the celebrations.  (Pinto has been our town “mascot” for quite a few years… I really used to think he was pretty lame when I was in High School, but now I can’t help but get excited over him when my daughter squeals “Hi Pinto!” every time we drive past him ;) )  Here are some of our photos from the big moment… :)   GO CANADA!!!

“Meyer” Monday

Posted on January 11, 2010

So I’ve decided to make a spin-off of the “Mine on Monday” posts… same idea, different name!  For this week’s edition however, I am showcasing my daughter’s talent in a couple of areas… one related to last weeks entry.  haha!  Remember the crazy girl workin’ the IPod like she owned it?  Yeah, well… here are some of my favorite pieces of art she has created on it in the last few days!  Found out that she magically saved about 60 of them on there… in various stages of completion.  Cracked me up!  Didn’t even know you could do that… haha!  This app is one of her favorites by far though… entertains her little imagination for great lengths of time :)   Enjoy.

Sweet Little Man {Medicine Hat Child Photographer}

Posted on January 9, 2010

Here is the sweetest, squishiest, cutest boy we know… he shares a birthday with my husband actually, and turned ONE this past October!  I have known his family for over ten years now, and worked with his Mom once upon a time, in a local western supply store in the city.  Oh the stories those walls could tell… he he he!  We still have the best time getting our new families together to visit and play, and on this particular visit, we wrangled up the little guy for a bit to do some photos.  I think we had him cornered for a total of five minutes collectively for both individual and family shots… haha!  He was teething that night and let me tell you… he wanted NO PART of having my camera in his face :)   But as you can see… his beautiful eyes and smile made a few appearances despite his best efforts to foil my plan!  Gotcha buddy!  xoxoxoxo

“Mine on Monday” Medicine Hat Family Photographer

Posted on January 5, 2010

Inspired by a wonderful fellow photographer Amanda Andrews, I’m going to attempt to post something personal here once a week to document “what’s up” in the Meyer household!  (Please note the word, attempt… he he)  All too often, I snap a photo of something I want to remember and share, but then leave it stuck on my computer for no one to see… ever.  That sort of defeats the purpose right?  So, thanks Amanda, for lighting the fire under my butt!

On that note, for my first “Mine on Monday (technically now Tuesday, oh man…)” post, I want to show you my three year old who has magically worked out how to use Mommy’s new ipod Touch a lot better than the actual owner… hunh!  How the heck does this happen?  Snuggled up under a blankie on the couch, fighting this nasty bronchitis… she spent a lot of time playing Shrek racing, Bubble Pop and doing mazes.  My girl amazes me everyday… “sigh”

The "ipod Touch" Princess

Oh, and while I’m thinking about it… my Mom was babysitting today and made the funniest discovery… hunh, no wonder I can’t make it out of my crescent with my car!

Snow Baby/Dog Gate?

Seriously?  This drift is as tall as my child.  Honestly… what next?  Sheesh!  Have a great week…
