Well, our daughter turned the big FOUR this past week… pretty exciting business around here, that’s for sure!  Not too big on princesses and all that girly stuff, she chose a Robin Hood theme for her party this year… now THAT was a challenge.  Pretty hard to find age appropriate Robin Hood things these days… but I had fun making up a scavenger hunt, party hats and of course the cake.  My very talented friend (who two years ago, created amazing Toopy and Binoo figures for the cake toppers) once again came through.  This time it was Mr. Hood himself and his girlfriend Maid Marion… priceless!  Still unsure how to arrange the cake, I decided to add a tree to the top as well.  Wasn’t really sure what I was doing at the time, but now that I see the results, I’d really like to try my hand at more sculpting in the future… just for fun ;)   Here are the figures and finally the cake…

So amongst all the mountains of toys and gifts this little girl received, was a brand new Easy Bake Oven… thank you Auntie Neesie!  These ovens sure have changed since I was little… but the process really hasn’t.  It still takes at least 35 minutes to make a minute little cake or cookie that tastes… well… you know.  haha!  Nevertheless, she loves being able to bake on her own (more or less) and of course I had to thoroughly document the whole thing!

Celebrating the Beauty of Life {Medicine Hat Photographer}

Posted on June 21, 2010

I have often come across people in my community who are going through something in their lives be it sickness, recovery, a birth that has overcome great odds, an adoption; and my automatic response to those stories is that I want to reach out to them and offer them a photography session (free of charge of course).  Something that would document this time in their lives, to leave behind memories for those they love or to commemorate a happy and joyful time.

To me the images that we take mean so much more than just a time and a place- they are a celebration of our lives- moments preserved and made into artwork that will forever remind us of the Beauty of Life!

So I challenge you to nominate your friends or those you have heard of who are deserving of such a celebration.  Take an active roll in those lives around you- notice the beauty in one another.

I will choose one application per month (for now) that truly merits a session.  If someone you nominate is chosen, you will also receive a credit to use towards a Celebration Session of your own!  I can’t wait to start helping everyone give :)

Applications (using the Contact link in the menu):

Your application of nomination must include your information (name, email address and phone number as well as a detailed description as to why you feel this person or people deserve a session.)
Also you must include their name, address, email address and phone number.

Here’s a little beauty for today…

Fresh Look {Medicine Hat Photographer}

Posted on June 21, 2010

When Shana contacted me, asking if we could do some “different” photos for her business cards and promotional materials, I was so excited!  The usual, run of the mill realtor photos (you know exactly the type I’m talking about) are just not fitting for one of the youngest realtors in Medicine Hat.  Shana is so easy going and was up for trying anything I could think up… we had so much fun dodging through alleys looking for the perfect backdrops!  I am extremely pleased with what the downtown area had to offer us.  I hope you love these photos Shana, and that you had as memorable a session as I did… I’d love to do it again sometime!  And if you’re looking to buy or sell a house, look Shana up here:)

Another Grad! {Bow Island Graduation Photographer}

Posted on June 21, 2010

Here is another grad session from Bow Island this year…  on a very windy day!  We were confined to my “studio” instead of the great outdoors, but nevertheless, we got some great shots of this young man.  Luckily his brother and sister came along to make jokes now and then, forcing Carson to crack the occasional smile :)   Congratulations once again, and I hope you love your photos!

Hellooooo… I just have a quick little post today for myself!  It’s been raining nearly nonstop here for days and days already, with a little break yesterday for Father’s Day :)   Thank goodness!  We got to hang out at the Bow Island Childrens Festival in the park and had a great time… on the bouncy castle, riding the train, petting the sweetest animals, doing crafts and watching some wonderful performers!  Now, back to the rain situation…Luckily, we’ve only had a little water in our basement.  We are praying every day for those in Medicine Hat, Irvine, Maple Creek and everywhere in between, who have had to leave their homes due to flooding.  It’s crazy!  We are also praying for the safe return of a little girl from Redcliff who was taken from her home yesterday… please check this link and keep your eyes open for her.  She just needs to be found and brought home.  Update… the little girl was turned over to the police today and will be heading home!

So for my post today, I’m showing you how thankful I am to have a safe and cozy home for my little girl… and for the time I have with her to build table tents for napping :)   Have a great week!

Once again, it is not Monday… but I’m sticking to this weekly posting business nonetheless!  Plus, I have the best excuse for not posting on the actual “Monday” of this week.  I extended my stay in Banff with my family… we had some touristy things that had to be done, what can I say?  The real reason I was in the mountains to begin with was for the Beyond in Banff Workshop, featuring some of my favorite photographers such as Redleaf Studios, Ali HohnAlisha Robertson and Danna Bowes.  It was a busy weekend to say the least… jam packed with information, sessions and the greatest group of photographers imaginable… I was starstruck several times, thrilled to be brushing elbows with people I really look up to.  Beautiful.  I learned an insane amount and met wonderful new friends… it was a memorable experience that I will be forever thankful for.  So my post for this week is a series of photos that were taken during a session with Redleaf Studios’ Richard and Amy.  We were each given a pear and various instructions to create a series of photos using prime lenses… encouraged to use negative space, creating depth with foreground interest, framing the subject and using light in a unique manner.  These are some of my favorite results!

Ok, seriously now… how can another Monday have come and gone?  Is this a bad joke?  Really… I think things need to S-L-O-W down around here these days.  Phew!  It seems like only yesterday that I posted how I’d be “posting some grad photos in the next couple of days”… ahem.  So another week has gone by, and this “Meyer Monday” has turned into a “Tuesday/Grad/Mine” segment!

Here’s the story…

Byron is the most polite, hardworking and dedicated young man… who calls my Mom his “second Mom” and who is the subject of my three year old’s affection at the moment ;)   This would be the reason for calling this a “Mine” post… you’ll notice in the last shot that she was invited in for a photo too… jammies and all… made her day completely!  We were also invited to his celebration that evening, which my ultimate Tomboy insisted on adorning ALL of her jewels and high heels to… “gotta look fancy, can’t let Byron down Momma.”  Taking Byron’s grad photos with his family was an absolute pleasure!  Can’t wait to take more at this cool farm location when the wind isn’t blowing 100km per hour ;)
