Well, our daughter turned the big FOUR this past week… pretty exciting business around here, that’s for sure!  Not too big on princesses and all that girly stuff, she chose a Robin Hood theme for her party this year… now THAT was a challenge.  Pretty hard to find age appropriate Robin Hood things these days… but I had fun making up a scavenger hunt, party hats and of course the cake.  My very talented friend (who two years ago, created amazing Toopy and Binoo figures for the cake toppers) once again came through.  This time it was Mr. Hood himself and his girlfriend Maid Marion… priceless!  Still unsure how to arrange the cake, I decided to add a tree to the top as well.  Wasn’t really sure what I was doing at the time, but now that I see the results, I’d really like to try my hand at more sculpting in the future… just for fun ;)   Here are the figures and finally the cake…

So amongst all the mountains of toys and gifts this little girl received, was a brand new Easy Bake Oven… thank you Auntie Neesie!  These ovens sure have changed since I was little… but the process really hasn’t.  It still takes at least 35 minutes to make a minute little cake or cookie that tastes… well… you know.  haha!  Nevertheless, she loves being able to bake on her own (more or less) and of course I had to thoroughly document the whole thing!

Hellooooo… I just have a quick little post today for myself!  It’s been raining nearly nonstop here for days and days already, with a little break yesterday for Father’s Day :)   Thank goodness!  We got to hang out at the Bow Island Childrens Festival in the park and had a great time… on the bouncy castle, riding the train, petting the sweetest animals, doing crafts and watching some wonderful performers!  Now, back to the rain situation…Luckily, we’ve only had a little water in our basement.  We are praying every day for those in Medicine Hat, Irvine, Maple Creek and everywhere in between, who have had to leave their homes due to flooding.  It’s crazy!  We are also praying for the safe return of a little girl from Redcliff who was taken from her home yesterday… please check this link and keep your eyes open for her.  She just needs to be found and brought home.  Update… the little girl was turned over to the police today and will be heading home!

So for my post today, I’m showing you how thankful I am to have a safe and cozy home for my little girl… and for the time I have with her to build table tents for napping :)   Have a great week!

Once again, it is not Monday… but I’m sticking to this weekly posting business nonetheless!  Plus, I have the best excuse for not posting on the actual “Monday” of this week.  I extended my stay in Banff with my family… we had some touristy things that had to be done, what can I say?  The real reason I was in the mountains to begin with was for the Beyond in Banff Workshop, featuring some of my favorite photographers such as Redleaf Studios, Ali HohnAlisha Robertson and Danna Bowes.  It was a busy weekend to say the least… jam packed with information, sessions and the greatest group of photographers imaginable… I was starstruck several times, thrilled to be brushing elbows with people I really look up to.  Beautiful.  I learned an insane amount and met wonderful new friends… it was a memorable experience that I will be forever thankful for.  So my post for this week is a series of photos that were taken during a session with Redleaf Studios’ Richard and Amy.  We were each given a pear and various instructions to create a series of photos using prime lenses… encouraged to use negative space, creating depth with foreground interest, framing the subject and using light in a unique manner.  These are some of my favorite results!

Ooh… I’ve been a very bad blogger the last while haven’t I?  Well, we were away again last Monday… having lots of fun I might add… so that’s my excuse for missing this time around :)   I will be posting some handsome graduates in the next couple of days, but for now, I have a mixture of personal photos that I’ve taken over the last two weeks!

Up first is a Robin’s nest that has been built right outside our friends’ kitchen window… lucky hey?!

Next are a couple of shots from my parents yard and ours too!

I feel so lucky to have this much beauty all around us… we just need to remember to open our eyes and actually “see” it sometimes.

These last photos for today, are of my daughter helping to take care of “her” flowers on the front stoop.  I say “helping” because, as you can see… the steps received the lions share of the water from her can!  “Mommy, I just wanted a big puddle to jump in and make footprints…”  Who can argue with that?  :)   Have a great week!

Um, so… yeah, I forgot to post again last week.  I think it was all the SNOW in MAY that had me kerfuffled or something.  Well, that’s my excuse anyways.  ;)   Check it out…

I managed to get a photo or two of my cherry blossoms too… which will “hopefully” survive after all the white stuff piled on them and weighed them down.  I checked them today, and there are quite a few that look ok… yahoo!

And… of course we had to go out and play in it… build a fort, snowfight and make one last (crossing my fingers… seriously, I realize we could very well have another snowfall in June…) batch of snow toffee for the year!  Here’s my little monkey in the new hat I designed for her!  (Actually made it for a friend of ours, but then had to make another so both monkies could have one :)   What do you think Ang?  haha!)

Last but not least… I was so pleased when my daughter asked me to play “dress up” with her this morning and did NOT insist on being the prince!  She actually enjoyed being a princess for once, and couldn’t get enough bling on herself… even gave her Big Bear a “makeover”!  haha!  I love my tomboy to pieces, but these rare moments of girly-ness really make me smile…

Hey all… Happy Monday!  Had a great day cruising around the city running errands… BY MYSELF… ahhhhh, loved it :)   Then I was taken out for a yummy supper by my husband and daughter, great day!  Here are a few photos taken in my backyard during a “Speed Challenge” for a Facebook group.  They announce the “theme” (which was green this week) and then give you two hours to shoot, edit and submit your entry… and then the voting begins!  It was really nice to shoot for the heck of it, and I loved capturing the new growth outside.  If you want to see the other entries… take a look and vote for your favourite (even if it’s not mine)  haha!

This last one was my entry…

Oh my goodness… another Monday has gotten away from me somehow!  Phew!  We had the biggest dump of snow last week… no big surprise, it happens pretty much every year.  However, we always get so caught up in the beautiful early Spring weather, that our minds manage to push the inevitable “April Snow” to the darkest depths of our memory.  Yeah… I was caught without my snow tires again.  Great.  So, stranded at home for a few days… Gramma and Papa came over to help occupy this crazy girl’s time, and we trudged out into the heaviest, wettest snow to make a snowguy!  (We even added some colour to jazz him up a bit… nice touch :) )  Of course, I had to take some photos to remind myself NEXT April…  :)

Just a quick hello today!  I’ve got a few more additions to my creation collection here to show you… some of you have been waiting so patiently to see ;)   I made up this diaper cover pattern because I couldn’t find one that was just what I wanted… and I think they turned out pretty darn cute!  And the booties, oh my… need I say more?  Now I just need a newborn to try them out on…  The little hat on my daughter can also be made into a simple beanie, totally cute.  She loves hers!  It really bothered me that putting a flower on it would be so permanent (she’s not usually a “flower” kind of girl…), so I figured out a way to make it interchangeable!  This way you can have one hat, with a variety of embellishments to go with it!  Different colours of flowers, butterflies, ladybugs… endless possibilities :)   Ooh, I love crafting!  haha!

I’m also busy scheming about an upcoming Trade Show that Melanie Meyer Photography will be a part of in May!  What a fun opportunity, I’m really excited about the possibilities… stay tuned and wish me luck!  I will be posting a promotion here during the last week of April and the first week of May that I am offering at the Tradeshow, so make sure you don’t miss out on it!
